Today,
I write about Nirvana’s, a very famous curry restaurant. Some may find this
review offensive or even biased. I assure you, that I am un-biased in my
reviewing as I have reviewed countless restaurants anonymously.
On a
hot and arid Wednesday, about 2pm, I approached this joint, after parking at
Bangsar Village. As I approached this crowded little restaurant, I saw a decent
queue, which could only mean that the meal is worth the wait. I was made to
wait for at least 30 minutes, before I was offered a seat. Once seated, I was
made to order. Following the saying, “the meek shall inherit the Earth”, I
feigned innocence by asking him what to order. The waiter immediately made a
few ticks and asked me to wait. Around
fifteen minutes later, my food arrived.
On a
slightly bruised and powdery banana leaf, I was served hot and fluffy rice.
Besides the slightly inferior quality of the rice itself, I personally thought
that the rice was beautifully cooked. I received some cucumber salad, with watery
yoghurt. That was a shame, as I expected better for the price. Some inferior potato, stewed, that lacked
seasoning and a curios red, deep fried vegetable fritters. The fritters, hats
off, were amazing. They were a scramble of textures, crunch on the outside and
succulent in the inside, making it almost impossible for me to even guess what
vegetable the proprietor used. The curry was a tad too watery.
Fifteen
minutes thru with my rice, the side dishes arrived. I was a solo diner, and I was
served one portion fried chicken, one piece of fried fish, one fried quail, one
serving of fried squid, and another, smaller fried fish. The fried chicken was bland, dry and poorly
seasoned. The fried fish was very flavourful, and beautifully cooked. The
quail, seems to be frozen, and had a bad texture. Good seasoning though. The
squid wasn’t fresh, but had good marinade that went well with the rice.
My
beverage, some iced lemon tea, was diluted and a tad too sweet, but cooled me
down really well. As soon as I ate, I felt keen eyes drilling the back of my
head, wishing for me to get up.
Overall,
I did not enjoy Nirvana as much as I thought I would. My overall rating is
0.75/3.00.
